Extra cool accessory
The latest generation of Pikos can use this heatsink for better temperature control, particularly on high power. Most of the time I operate my lamp at medium or low, and neither of these modes generate much heat. However, on high power, the Piko can get pretty warm, and heat is the enemy of electronics. Although I didn’t do any scientific tests, I didn’t notice the lamphead change temperature too much while standing still. However, this heatsink was warm, proving it provided dissipation of heat while standing still. This isn’t really a big deal with bicyclists since we’re generally only using high power when moving pretty fast. However, heat dissipation may vary with backpackers or climbers. With that being said, I noticed it did a particularly good job on the bike while moving. I generally only turn my lamp on high when going at speeds above 30 MPH. Other than that, I find medium to be much more efficient while projecting enough light to easily see what’s coming up. While moving, the heatsink seemed to keep my Piko noticeably cooler than the lamphead would operate at with no heatsink at all. A $20 purchase to keep the expensive electronics in my lamphead running cooler seems like a worthwhile investment to me.
