For over 25 years Lupine Lights has helped mountain bikers win races, illuminate the most challenging outdoor adventurers, and provided reliable light sources for life-saving rescue missions. Lupine's years of experience in precision-manufacturing paired with ongoing innovation in LED technology, elevate the new SL A to the ideal road-use light.
1. Daytime running light blinks for ultimate visibility and safety
2. Daytime and nighttime running light can run at the same time (trail mode)
Read the Manual (coming soon)
High-tech stereo-sensors scan the ambient light and automatically switch the SL from daytime running light to full beam. This function is especially handy at high speeds, when you may not have time to react.
LIGHT YEARS AHEAD
The heart of the SL is composed of 12 high intensity LEDs and the world's first dual Aspheric Lens System for bike lights. Their extremely robust and high quality aluminum body protects the SL from shock, dust, and water.
The SL is a special member of the Lupine family of lights. Not only is it compliant with strict e-bike light standards, but it also directs 100% of its 900 lumens directly on your path. The SL is designed like a car headlight and doesn't glare any other road users.
Mounting the SL A is very simple and compatible with Stem widths of 39-51mm.
The SL is incomparable. Its unique look is due not only to the distinctive "daytime running light" but above all to the development performance of our engineers. With the SL, they created the smallest and lightest lamp in its class.
Durability and Endurance, September 7, 2019 By Adam Carr (Colchester, VT)
While I have only had this light a short period now my experience is similar to the other unit that I own - the ROTLICHT rear tail light.
This light is expensive - as was the rear light relative to cheaper options. However both units do what you would expect from the expense in that they seem to outlast in longevity and durability. While I don't go out of my way to drop my expensive lights it has certainly happened with my tail light. Durability comes at a price but for something I want to buy once and keep for years to come I am happy.
Most important for me beyond that is the battery life and the variable battery options. A smaller pack for general commuting that seems to last a good long while - and a larger battery for some serious evening excursions. I don't plan on doing an eco trek any time soon but I definitely enjoy quieter roads at dusk or after dark. This light also seems to be unique in that the shape and falloff of the light looks very similar to a motorcycle and doesn't seem to blind people.
So far I have enjoyed the mounting system as I have it mounted on the bottom of my garmin mount using a go pro adapter.
In follow up to my April 2018 review, I wanted to let folks know my SLA continues to deliver. Great daylight running light for safety, long battery life and a seamless transition to full beam as the sun sets on early spring rides. Best front light ever! Pairing with the Rot light makes for the perfect match.
Amazing commuter light, June 17, 2018 By Robert Hollyer (Bainbridge Island, WA)
I use the SL-A head light on my daily 30-mile commute. Honestly, for myself this is the perfect light. The beam pattern is excellent. It's wide with a sharp cutoff and doesn't blind oncoming pedestrians and cyclists. The light output (lux) is excellent. The daytime running light seemed pointless but in fact it works great and is noticeably bright while not being blinding. The battery pack has a nice led state-of-charge indicator. However, the audible status is pretty quiet. You need to be indoors for the audible beep to be useful.
I bought the optional quick release mount and it works perfectly. Well engineered and easy on/off. Probably the only downside to the light is the power adapter and the power connector. They're both non-standard and the connector has a tight fit. Presumably for waterproofing. But with USB Type C experiencing wide spread adoption and at high power capabilities, it would make more sense than a non-standard power supply and connector.
Overall, this light is expensive but worth it.
SL A4 Road Light, April 19, 2018 By Charlie Olmstwd (Hershey, PA)
The SL A4 is the perfect front head light for road cycling. I started using the SL A4 on my road bike this spring when I decided to maximize my visibility for safety reasons and desired long running batteries. So after using the light for over a month, I can say that the daytime running light LED technology is the real deal if you desire enhanced visibility to on coming traffic. Also the run time of this unit is far superior to an other front light I have ever tested. Simple operation, just two clicks to turn on and one long click to shut off. Once powered on the light automatically senses if it needs to be in daylight running mode or a full headlight....very cool!
